Interesting New Info on the Health Dangers of Conventionally-Grown Foods (video)

Here’s a video by Dr. Stephanie Seneff, a professor from MIT who also lives in Hawaii part of the year.  She has done amazing research on the effects of glyphosate (the main active ingredient in Roundup© herbicide, the world’s biggest selling chemical).  In this video she discusses its connection to major health problems.  People have been led to believe that Roundup© is safe, however it is now known to be an endocrine disruptor in parts per trillion!  The manufacturer, Monsanto, hid animal studies which resulted in cancer, but the data has now surfaced.  The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared glyphosate a probable human carcinogen–classified “probable” due to the lack of human studies.

Dr. Seneff has a lot more videos on YouTube and published scientific papers alerting people of the dangers and how to overcome the problems.  One of the main things is to eat organically grown foods that are nutrient dense and free of toxic agricultural chemicals.  By definition, organic foods are GMO-free.  Just avoiding GMOs is not enough because even many non-GMO crops like wheat, other grains, beans, etc. are sprayed with Roundup© just prior to harvest.   Roundup© is systemic, which means it can’t be washed off the food.  Meat and dairy animals in our country are mainly fed GMO feeds with high levels of glyphosate.  This comes through to the consumers of the meat and dairy products.  Even fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds can be contaminated.

Also, don’t use Roundup© in your yard!  Members of my community are working to stop the roadside spraying of this chemical by the county.  Many countries have already banned its use entirely.  It needs to be banned worldwide!

Big Island Avocado Festival and a Visit with the Mayor

Aloha All,  My good friend, Dr. Randyl Rupar, is the driving force behind the wonderful Avocado Festival each year.  This Saturday, February 21, will be the 9th Annual festival, which features live music, a myriad of vendor booths, and, of course, lots and lots of avocados!  Avocados are incorporated into interesting and delicious dishes, some of which will be entered in contests and given out as free samples.  This is a free event for the public to attend and located on the magnificent, historic grounds of the Sheraton Kona Resort overlooking lovely Keauhou Bay.  Please come!  For more info, visit www.AvocadoFestival.org.

This festival is a huge amount of work for Randyl, and he and I visited the mayor of the Big Island, Billy Kenoi, on February 10 to ask for his blessing and support of this amazing event.   Mayor Kenoi received us very warmly.  I was pleased to be able to also share my vision of Beyond Organic agriculture with him and his staff.  My concepts were well received, and he thanked both Randyl and me for the work we do.  In turn, we thanked the Mayor for his help in keeping GMOs off of our island and stopping the incinerator project, which supports the return of green waste to our soil through composting and mulch instead of burning it.

Dr. Don Huber Shares Critical Information on GMOs and Glyphosate (RoundUp®)

Dr. Don Huber, professor emeritus from Purdue, has spent many years teaching students how to grow better crops. Currently, he is focusing on disseminating information on the dangers of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and the herbicide glyphosate (commonly available as RoundUp®). Most grocery store items contain one or both. Major GMO crops are engineered to withstand heavy use of glyphosate, hence the term “RoundUp® Ready”. So the cultivation of GMO crops results in the use of more chemicals, not less. These GMO crops have significantly less nutrition than non-GMO crops because glyphosate ties up soil nutrients and kills beneficial microorganisms which make nutrients available to plants.

At a recent meeting in Kailua-Kona, here on the Big Island of Hawai`i, Dr. Huber shared a Power Point presentation with many shocking slides. Thousands of studies show the dangerous health effects of the use of GMOs and glyphosate (RoundUp®). Their use has been positively correlated to the sudden rise in various diseases such as diabetes, autism, celiac disease, Alzheimer’s, kidney disease, acute allergies, and liver disease, as well as reproductive failures, miscarriages and birth defects (see charts below).

Dr. Bogs Testifies in Support of Labeling GMO “Foods”

Honolulu City Council–Decision-Makers who control our lives

In late November, Dr. Bogs journeyed to Honolulu where she testified in support of GMO Labeling before the Honolulu City Council and attendees of the meeting. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) are “foods” which have been genetically engineered and patented by large corporations. These foods are extremely pervasive, occurring in approximately 70% of processed foods in grocery stores. The general public is not aware of the many health and environmental dangers inherent in these foods, and they are not labeled as being genetically modified. Over 20 people testified to the dangers of GMOs, the right to know what is in our foods, and to have GMO labeling on foods. Not one person testified for “not labeling GMOs”. However, the proposal to push forward with labeling was defeated, with only two members of the council supporting labeling. Why? Most likely because most of the council members receive campaign support from GMO companies.

People have the right to know what is in their food! Please support labeling of GMOs.
