Kona Library Talk–Growing Nutritious Vegetables (and Vog Detox info)

Please join us for this free Powerpoint presentation about growing great food in general, and about the Nutrition Farming for Hawaii research and demonstration garden in particular.  Learn how you can apply the information in your own garden!  Here’s your chance to get your garden soil questions answered.  For example, “What nutrient is often low in soils, but needed in our food to help our bodies detox the vog (airborne contaminants from the volcanic eruptions) or smog in general?”

Autographed copies of Dr. Jana’s book, Beyond Organic: Growing for Maximum Nutrition and Flavor, will be available after the talk at a discounted price for attendees.  If you miss the lecture, the books are available on the website, www.beyondorganicresearch.com.  (And the answer to help with the vog is in the book!)

See you there!

A White Christmas in Hawaii?

Happy Holidays!

Mauna Kea with a blanket of snow for a white Christmas!  Snapped yesterday on my way to the Nutrition Farming for Hawaii research and demonstration center.

Yes, we get snow every year on Mauna Kea, which means “white mountain”, and on Mauna Loa, which means “long mountain”.  These mountains are nearly 14,000 feet high.  Mauna Loa is the largest cubic volume mountain in the world, and still considered an active volcano.  We are blessed on the Big Island with 11 of the 13 climates in the world, from rain forests to rocky deserts, and warm shorelines to frigid mountain tops.  This makes for an extremely diverse agricultural paradise that I am hoping someday will be a major showcase for a huge number of Nutrition Grown™ crops.

Make your holidays a bit merrier with a Christmas tree made of fruits–here’s how!
